Several friends, my husband and I are planning a trip to “The Witch City” of Salem, MA.  It is not only a ghostly city, but also home to on of the most significant seaports in America.  It is home to the 1692 historical witch trials.  With many shop, such as,  New Age and Wiccan boutiques, kitschy Halloween, witch-themed attractions and a vibrant downtown that has more than 60 restaurants, cafes and coffee shops, the 15th Annual Retailers Association of Massachusetts names Salem as the best place to shop.

This is part 2 of my amazing Tarot reading by Robin Mortola from Enchanted at Salem, MA’s Pickering Wharf.

For the first portion of the reading, right click this link and pull it up in a new tab or window: My First Tarot Reading – Part 1 – My Purpose in Life.  In this portion, I will share with you what I learned about the paranormal activity I’ve had surrounding me since I was 14.

Robyn paused for a moment and closed her eyes, holding her hands over the Tarot cards.

She told me, before I could offer the information, that I had three children.  I remember when I was young that my mother had a reading but I can’t remember if it was a palm reading or tarot reading.  When she returned she shared all the details with me.  Several predictions came true not long after.  I held onto the information that was the most important to me at the time.  The reader had told her I would have three children, two boys and a girl.  I was young, probably between 13-16.  I can’t quite recall but I do know it was before I had found the love of my life.

As time went on I got married and had my first child, a son.  When I became pregnant a year later, I recalled the information my mother had given me and wondered if this child was my boy or girl.  After two months, I miscarried.  Two months later I was pregnant with my second son.  I never had other children.  In my mind, the baby I had lost was my daughter.  I was always very close to my mother and wanted that kind of relationship with a daughter.  I felt for a long time that there was something missing.

I was relieved to hear that she too saw 3 children.  Every palm reading I had I was told the same.  There were so many times when I felt her presence with me.  I have felt knees or feet pushing on the back of my seat when no one was behind me in the car.  Doors in my house have jiggling handles and they open and close with no cross wind.  We hear footsteps in the hall; even my son’s girlfriend, Nichole has seen what she describes as shadow people near the stairs in the hallway.  The dog even stares at the stairwell and the landing intently with his ears at attention.  (He doesn’t bark though.)  We have even gotten tapped on the shoulder and heard voices when we were in a hotel room at Disney World.

There was an instance recently where I was in the living room and my son’s friend was in the kitchen and we both asked each other “What?” at the same time.  We had heard a female voice coming from the area between the two rooms.  No one else was downstairs.

The night before the reading I walked past the television and out of the room to talk to my husband in his office.  After about a minute into our conversation, the TV turned on.

Having had experiences since I was about 13 or 14, as described in another post of mine, Where The Ghosts Live, I have gotten used to the noises and activity.  Knowing that my husband and I were headed to a psychic fair (don’t think I’m losing my mind when I say this, but,) just before we left the house, I spoke out loud, “If there is someone here and you want to make yourself known, tonight would be the night.  You have always been welcome around me and will continue to be but I would love to know who your are.

As the reading continued, she shared some very wonderful information.

When Robyn touched on me having 3 children, I was not expecting what was to come.  It was as if she was communicating with her directly.  She told me that I was further along than I thought, close to my third month when I lost her.  There was a reason she wasn’t born.  She didn’t offer what the reason was and because she didn’t offer, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to know so I didn’t ask.

She asked if I wanted to know if the baby was a boy or girl.  I told her that I thought I already knew.  She confirmed that she was a girl without any information from me.  “She is OK,” she said.  “She is around your oldest son more than she is around you.  She is around all the time but she really has a strong connection with him.”

Without prior knowledge of the above instances that had been happening at home, after a long meditative pause Robyn said, “She can actually manifest pretty well.  So if you are seeing things in your house, that’s her.”  So I had to ask, “Is there any way to ask if she turned the television on last night?”  “Oh, she does more than that.  She turns on televisions and she likes to annoy the girlfriend.  She moves her stuff.”  When I inquired if she liked Nichole, she said, “She comes across as a jokester.  She’s just being playful.  She’s saying, ‘I like to play with her.'”  I didn’t catch her say that during the reading but I had recorded it and realized when I played it back.  I wish I would have asked if she was there actually talking to Robyn.

She went on to say, “When you’re having a really bad day, that’s when you’re going to feel her.  She’s the one who makes you laugh out of nowhere.  That’s the energy she has, a really good energy.”  Then she reiterated the attachment with Dan and that she likes to hide his girlfriend’s stuff.

After the reading I sent a text to Nichole.  “Do you ever find that your things are not where you left them when you are at our house?”  To which she replied, “Yessssssss!!”  “Seriously.  I will put a shirt in the top portion of my bag and when I go to get it, it’s all the way at the bottom.  Why?”  When I told her she was a little freaked out but comforted by the fact that what she had seen and what was going on was all done out of fun and that she wasn’t going crazy or in any danger.

After a brief pause she recalled how she had come into the house the other night and the lotion in her bag knocked into the staircase railing and hit the wood floor.  We both heard it hit.  She stood there for at least a minute and a half looking for it before realizing it was 3 or 4 steps up the staircase on the rug.  She pointed out that we had both heard it hit the floor.  I guess it may not be fair, but I feel that my daughter is going to start getting blamed every time something gets misplaced, even if it wasn’t her doing.  This lightheartedness puts me at ease.

My Grandfather

1013357_10151705492388456_421094573_nWe moved on to the next subject and Robyn asked if my son had a medal that belonged to a great grandfather figure on my paternal side.  I had never met my paternal grandfather’s father.  This information did fit the grandfather on my mother’s side.  She asked if he had been like a father figure to me.  Indeed he had.  My grandfather (the tallest man, in the picture on the left) spent a lot of time with me throughout my life and I was very close to him.  He lived out of state but I would spend a few weeks there every summer growing up and he visited us often here.  He would be my son’s great grandfather.  I told her that we had something of his.  She reiterated that she is seeing my son with his medal.  “I have his old coin collection,” I told her.  She said that him showing me that was just his way of saying that he is around us.

coin  1395227_10151705492328456_858279127_n 1383307_10151705492283456_1861201857_n

When I returned home, I took a look at one of the coins.  It was inside a box that I hadn’t opened in years.  ON the box was what looked like a military medal, inside the box was on of his many coins he left to me when he passed.  I intended to ask Dan if he had one of them.  He has a tendency to take things in his room and I find them much later.  Before I could speak with him, I told my younger son, Austin the story.  He has mentioned many times that he does not believe in ghosts or the afterlife.  He was shocked and said, “I think she may have meant me.  I was just looking at those coins yesterday.”  Awesome!!!

The final thing we discussed of the paranormal realm was, if “Caitlin,” (that’s what we would have named my daughter,) has been around a lot when in my adult life, then who or what was behind the activity I’ve had in my life when my grandfather was alive and before I was ever pregnant.  I’ve had paranormal apparitions and electronic manipulations since I was 14.  She said that she could tell me, even before pulling the card that it was not a ghost.  It was my spirit guide.  After she pulled the card she said, “Yes, even the card shows a spirit guide.  It is not female or male.  It has been around much longer than 14.  That’s just when you started noticing it.  When you need a maternal type of nurturing, it gives female energy and when you need someone to stick up for you and be there to give you strength it is masculine.”  How fascinating.  All this time I thought the house I grew up in was haunted.  But at the same time I couldn’t quite explain why I had experiences in every home I have lived in since then.

As I mentioned, I have never felt threatened by any of the activity that has surrounded me all these years.  I do know that it is what has always held my interest in the paranormal.  I will continue learning more as I move on with my life, but I can say that, not only have I never felt alone when I physically am , I will gain strength in knowing I am protected by my guardian angel, watched over and loved by my grandfather, who I miss dearly and loved by and cheered up by my daughter who I will one day know in another life.

I am grateful for these blessings of knowledge.  I thank Edwin and Lillian, owners of the Haunted Victorian in Gardner and Spirit Sleepers Investigators for holding the psychic fair at the Mansion on the Blood Moon/Lunar Eclipse and I am grateful to Rev. Robyn Mortola for the amazing reading and the soothing energy she brought to it.  If you wish to contact her for a reading in Salem, MA, contact the Enchanted Shop at 978-745-2856 for an appointment.

The Fearing Tavern (Museum)

11 Friday Oct 2013

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

If the thought of ghost hunting excites you, THIS SATURDAY NIGHT there will be an event in Wareham, Massachusetts from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM.  This includes dinner, lectures, and hours of ghost investigating in four haunted buildings!  Click on the first link in my “Sources” area at the bottom of the page for tickets and further information.  Jeff Belanger, author of the book I have sitting right next to me, “Encyclopedia of Haunted Places,” and about a dozen others will be a guest as well as Tim Weisburg, who is responsible for the findings below as well as several other notable paranormal investigators.

The Places scheduled for touring this October 12th will not only of the Fearing Tavern, but also of the Old Methodist Meetinghouse (circa 1835), the One-Room Schoolhouse (circa 1825) and the Union Chapel (circa 1880).

Fearing TavernTHE FEARING TAVERN

The Benjamin  Fearing Tavern, named for the Fearing family, one of the founding families of the town,  who owned it for 200 years, is now owned by the town of Wareham’s Historical Society in the state of Massachusetts.  It was originally a home that was turned into a tavern in 1747.  There have been preservations done several times since it’s been built but it has kept the look of the time period as much as possible.  Additions were made to the location in 1765 and 1820.  Walking in is like stepping back in time to the revolutionary time period with all the artifacts and time period furniture, some of it donated by generations of the Fearing family themselves.  It is quite a treat.

There is  great deal of history in this old place.  For instance, according to one of the books I used as a source, “EVP – Electronic Voice Phenomenon – Massachusetts Ghostly Voices,” by Michael Markowicz, approximately 200 British soldiers stopped here for some spirits and a bite to drink before heading out to burn down a cotton factory.  It also served as a court house and post office for the town of Wareham.

Michael Markowicz, host of “East Bridgewater’s Most Haunted” a local radio program, got together with an investigative team some time before 2009 and investigated the tavern.   The results reported in his book included EVP evidence from the investigation.   A voice that states, “Ze Attic” which sounded like it was spoken by a German voice then a noise resembling a broom sweeping the wooden floor when the spirits were asked if they lived there.

A strange bit of evidence was also captured that they could not explain.  There was nothing in the home that would make the noise of a slamming, then latching iron gate or door.  He points out that indeed, not all evidence captured is in the form of voices.  Just after the noise is captured, a voice is also caught stating, “Christ did penance.”

A little girl’s voice was captured asking, “Wanna play dress up,” as the team was headed for the basement area.

The fourth voice was of a man with an accent and was very clear.  IT was captured in a controlled environment.  He said, “We got ‘em mouse holes in here.”

The final EVP that is mentioned that was captured during this investigation is of a man who confesses to murdering his grandfather. “Hey Ashford, I killed Grandpa Ash!  I just knew you’d feel the pain.”  A voice states in reply, “then consider it… a gift.”

Forty six other EVP’s were captured by this team that night.

As I was reading about this in the Book, EVP Electronic Voice Phenomenon – Massachusetts Ghostly Voices – Michael Markowicz, where the above evidence is taken from, it mentions a light that travels toward a bookshelf as it blinks and disappears into the wall.  They called it, “Tinkerbelle.”  I wasn’t going to mention it, that is, until I found it on YouTube.  Take a look at the full video.  I didn’t see it the first time but keep watching!!!

I’d say that’s pretty amazing.  What do you think?

So, will you be heading out last minute to check these locations out?  Let me know if you have ever been there or plan on going!

One of the Most Haunted Places in New England

History of the Hoosac Tunnel:

During the early 1800’s there was no direct route that connected  Boston’s railroad to upstate New York.  The completion of such a route was being sought in order to increase the transport of goods from businesses back and forth from these areas.

In 1825 a route was proposed by a man named who Laomi Baldwin surveyed the land for the proposed canal route but it was shot down.  It was determined they would have to bore a hole through the mountain and that would be far too costly a venture.

Alvah Crocker, a paper mill manufacturer from Fitchburg, MA opened his Fitchburg Railroad in 1845 which traveled from Boston to Greenfield.  In order to connect the railroad to New York, there would need to be a way through the Deerfield River Valley and somehow pierce through the Hoosac Mountain that stood in the way.

Tragedy in the Tunnel

Mr. Crocker obtained state funding in 1854 to start burrowing through the mountain near North Adams, MA, but many problems ensued.  There were many issues including political, monetary, structural, engineering, etc.  Thirteen years later, the tunnel, still under construction, met with tragedy.  There had been deaths prior to this but on October 17, 1867, an explosion killed the 13 people inside the shaft.  There are approximately 200 deaths in the Hoosac Tunnel, later nicknamed, “The Bloody Pit.”

The Haunted Hoosac

According to the book, “Haunted Massachusetts,” two of the deaths occurred due to an explosion during a premature detonation that was set off by a man named, Ringo Kelley.  Kelley was never convicted of a crime.  On the one year date of the anniversary of the explosion, Kelley was found strangled in the tunnel in the very spot the two men had been killed.

After this incident, many workers walked off the project because they stated they were hearing agonizing voices of people who were not there.  The project almost came to a halt due to the number of employees who would not return so investigators were hired to put their minds at ease.  It was an unsuccessful effort due to the investigators also hearing moans coming from the tunnel.

Phantom workers have been reported to be seen by many as well as mysterious lights, chilling voices, whispers and other unearthly happenings.

My son, Austin took a trip to the tunnel with his freshman class as part of a class called, “mountain classroom” at Ayer High School.  He states they walked a little ways into the tunnel before coming out.  He and his friends did not have an experience nor did they see anything unusual.

There is no trespassing in the tunnel so if you go, please be aware that it is still used as a functioning railway and police patrol the area.  (I do believe the class had been given permission to enter when they did so there may be a way to contact someone for permissions.  You may try the museum if you  have a group or class who would like to go.)

If you or anyone you know have been to this location, please feel free to share your experiences or stories that you have heard about the location.

Additional Information:

The first train passed through the 4.75 mile, $20 Million tunnel in February of 1875 with the official opening July 1, 1876.  A room was carved out in the center of the tunnel for walkers.  Passenger service was suspended in 1958.

The Heritage State Park Museum & Visitors Center is located in North Adams, Massachusetts and houses many artifacts from the construction, an audio/visual presentation of the construction process as well as other educational material about the area.

The Haunted Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Inn and Museum

Borden HomeFall River, Massachusetts was home to the Borden family in the 1890’s. Andrew and Abby Borden were murdered in the home on August 4, 1892. Their daughter Lizzie was tried and acquitted for the brutal crimes against her father and step mother due to lack of evidence.  Her sister, Emma, who had been away on a pleasure trip,  believed too, that she was not guilty of the crime.

In 2007, Tim Estiloz spent the night in the house and relays the history of the murders and the house today in this 7 minute video below, (“Lizzie Borden: The TRUE Story & The Murder House Today.”)

COMING SOON:  According to the official website, Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum, if you are too afraid to spend the night in a haunted house but have an extreme fascination, there is another option.  The house is set up with 16 cameras throughout and the main website offers a membership to which you can view their ghost cams from the comfort of your home.  They don’t guarantee you will see any ghostly activities (just to satisfy their lawyer they say) but they are hoping you will catch orbs, apparitions and astral projections.  They are hoping to have 4 cameras up and running by the end of this month (October 2013) and the rest active soon after.

If you go to the website above, you can find more info.  The current pricing for October 2013 is $15 for a tour.  They run every hour on the hour, every day, except major holidays, from 11-3 and last approximately 50 minutes.  Reservations for a tour are not necessary unless you have a group of 10 or more.

There are other options besides the tour.  You can choose to spend the night if you dare, but children under age 5 are not permitted.  You have the choice of just renting the room, doing a full bed and breakfast, “half board” or “full board.”  I was unable to get the rates at this time.

What are some of the things you have heard about the case or the house?  We will never know if it was Lizzie who committed these murders.  Perhaps with modern day science we could have pulled prints found from the axe in the basement, but even then, if the axe belonged to the family an argument could be made that her prints would be on it anyway.  Could it have been her sister who returned early from her trip or the maid, even a passer-by or neighbor who had a disagreement with the Bordens.  Again, we will never know.

Let us know if you have visited this location and if you think it is haunted.

Thank you for stopping by.  Check out my posts of other haunted locations and feel free to check out my other blog site, The Peace and Happiness Project.

1380723_10151673118023456_1383467710_nAs promised, there will be several parts of this series on the S.K. Pierce Haunted Victorian Mansion in Gardner, MA.  I have been asked by the owner to do a piece on table tipping.  They will be having a psychic fair at the mansion on October 18th that includes several different types of investigative styles that you can choose to participate in.  I will be covering, hopefully tomorrow, what table tipping is, hopefully a video example, what is going on at the fair, i.e. the times, prices and how to get tickets.  The proceeds from tours and events go toward the repair and upkeep of the mansion.

I urge you to read part 1 after you finish this one if you find this interesting.  It is about my experiences and my knowledge of the house and how I first became aware of it, a video clip of a voice from the beyond answering a question very clearly, and detailed summary of the deaths and unexplained happenings as well as a description of the findings from the recent episode of Ghost Adventures.

I am also hoping to do a video interview with a dear friend of mine who is, as I write this, at the mansion on lock down for an investigative tour.  I know she has already had an experience as she has shared via text.  More on that soon.

In this, part 2, I would like to share with you a 6 minute video short tour of the Victorian with Owner, Edwin Gonzalez.  He will be leading Kat, Tony and Wendy from Maine Ghost Hunters on a tour of the house during which he will explain several happenings that have taken place at the mansion with the past owner as well as some things that other investigators have witnessed.  He also shares some of his own stories while you get to see what some of the inside of the house looks like.

What did you think of the reflection in the mirror they showed in the beginning that was caught on a Nikon camera without the flash setting?

This is the last video for the night.  It is also from Maine Ghost Hunters.  It is about 3 minutes and shows a short flashlight session with communication from the spirits.

If you have visited this house, what were your experiences.  Please let us know in the comment thread.

There are a great number of videos on the internet with EVP and video evidence that are much longer.  I will keep this a short post.  More tomorrow on “Table Tipping.”

The tension rose in the car as we drove the last 2.5 miles deeper and deeper into the woods up the back, poorly paved narrow roads in Fitchburg, MA. We drove slowly down the dark, dirt, dead end that is Caswell road (not to be confused with Caswell Street.)  When we saw the cemetery on our right, we pulled over and the 3 of us got out of the car.

1381953_10151672958288456_1783007979_nI had asked my son and his best friend to go with me so I could get a few pictures.  The truth is, I didn’t want to go alone.  I had heard rumors, stories about happenings in this cemetery in my own town and I had even been there twice before, once during the day and once at night, but I would never go there alone.

When we all got out of the car, I left the lights on and the emergency hazards.  There were no street lights or any other lights for that matter.  It was pitch black.  After freaking myself out and both guys complaining about the lights and the hazards, I turned them off.

They were much braver than I and walked amongst the gravestones, checking out dates and engravings.  The cemetery was established in 1791 for the veterans and families of the Revolutionary War.  This is why it is called, “The Rev” by locals.  I believe the stone they were looking for was the one they spoke of on the way there that is part of a legend.  They mentioned that if you stood on this grave stone that you would die, although not immediately.  (I couldn’t resist to joke that of course, you would, we all do eventually.)  When I got home to research more about that stone I discovered a website (http://www.strangeusa.com/Viewlocation.aspx?id=4887) that tells the story stating that particular stone had been stolen 4 times and returned 3 times.  It is no longer there, not that they could have found it at night.

According to the site, http://www.theshadowlands.net/places/massachusetts.htm, there have been several deaths there.  It states there was a 20 year old man who was killed and burned on that road and that a girl also died after her car hit a tree on Caswell.  That alone could be enough information to give you the creeps if you are there looking for spirits but the site listed above also speaks of urban legends of animal sacrifice, satanic and sexual rituals, someone being accidentally killed and buried just beyond the cemetery wall and 2 missing teenagers who were left behind at the cemetery but never found.  It is also rumored that soldiers with glowing eyes have been seen leaning against the walls in the area.  Some of these stories still circulate amongst the teens in the area according to my two young men and their friends.

I cannot confirm any of this.  I do feel very anxious when I’m there but I feel that is because it is so dark and eerily quiet.  Most of the people I have spoken to who have been there feel the same way but have never seen anything either.

After requests for pictures I went back today to get some shots.  There are several broken stones as seen below:

The broken pieces were gathered and and placed around a tree.

There was one stone that is slivered and chipped with the ground growing up around it.  The picture next to it is of a new family stone.  This may have replaced the one that had been vandalized.

Here are the rest of the pictures…

If you go, you be the judge.  Please note that there are signs stating no trespassing after dark.  The neighbors will call the police.

Welcome to my newest blog, “Where the Ghosts Live.”  I’ve had a fascination with the afterlife since I was about 14 when I started having several unexplained occurrences going on in my home and kept seeing shadows and movement out of the corner of my eye that I could not explain.

These strange events have continued throughout my lifetime and it seems that it doesn’t matter where I am.  I have moved 6 times since this all started and I’ve had continued experiences.  I’d like to start this blog by sharing a few of those with you today.

My Childhood Home, Shirley, MAAt the age of 7, I moved to a house in the town of Shirley, Massachusetts that was more than 100 years old.  I remember hearing all the stories of how much it had changed over the years structurally.  I remember my parents telling the story of the banging noises they kept hearing after they moved in.  They were getting their room set up (behind the first two front windows and left side window) and kept hearing a banging from inside the walls of their bedroom.  The noises were very intermittent but continued over a period of about a month.  They found out after a while that there had been a fireplace in that room that had been covered up.  They could never prove the source and debunked it as being an animal or rattling air that had settled in spaces behind the wall.

As I got older, whatever was in that house seemed to become more active.  I was about 14 when the activity picked up rapidly.  I recall that I would curl my hair in front of the television and I would see a shadow sitting on the steps to my right.  Our family room was a finished room in the basement, (the white  and red bricked area in the above picture).  The next room over was my brother’s room but by this time, he had moved off to college.  Through his room to the right was an unfinished, typical basement area with a laundry room in the back.  None of the dogs I ever had while growing up would ever go back that far for some reason.

The two most notable things that happened, happened in my brother’s room.  I had a friend stay over one night and we decided to sleep in the hide-a-bed in that there.  The head of the bed was up against the wall with the laundry area’s door to its right and the outside door on the left side.  It was late and we were talking the night away, as most teenaged girls do.  All of a sudden, we both sat straight up in a panic and looked at each other, “DID YOU SEE THAT?” (My hair still stands on end when I tell this story.)  We had both seen a full body apparition walk from one side of the bed, all the way around to the other!  It seemed to be a figure of a young girl.  My friend and I still recall the event in the same way.

Some time later we had electrical occurrences that were unexplained.  We had a radio that would turn its timer dial on and play just before I came home from school.  No one had been in the house prior to my arrival to turn that 60 minute dial to the on position.  Another time, an unplugged lamp turned on then off several times in that same basement room.  My parents and I all witnessed that at the same time.

I’m not sure if the spirit/s are attached to me or to the house but when I moved, I continued witnessing paranormal activity at every location I’ve lived over my lifetime.  In my most recent house, where we have been the only owners, we hear doors open and close after being closed properly, door handles jiggle, noises as if something is bumping into a wall, footsteps and apparitions.  My most recent event that had more than one witness, happened about 3 months ago.  I am married with two teenage boys.  My husband and oldest son, as well as his girlfriend and a few of their friends have seen and heard things in this house.  My son, Dan had friends over one evening, most of whom were up in his room.  Patrick had stayed downstairs in the kitchen eating a snack and I was in the next room over, the living room.  We both, at the same time, heard a female voice speak, as if standing in the entry way to both rooms.  I thought one of the girls was in the kitchen with him.  He called to me to ask what I said.  That’s when we realized we were alone downstairs and neither of us had said a word but both had heard the same thing.

At this point in my life, I would be lost without some kind of activity going on every once in a while.  It has never bothered me but occasionally I do get a little freaked out about the fact that spirits can communicate after passing.

I could go on and on about what has gone on in my life pertaining to this subject.  I will save some for later posts.

Going forward I will cover many different reported hauntings and afterlife phenomenon and bring them to you via this blog site.  I would also like to take a few tours of some local sites to let you know what I find.  Perhaps I could sneak in some interviews with others who have had experiences and review some psychic mediums to report on them as well.  I hope you will follow this page as well as my other, http://www.PeaceAndHappinessProject.com which is geared toward helping you reduce stress and increase happiness.

Thank you for stopping by.  Tomorrow’s post will be about a local Massachusetts haunting.
